Brown Sugar Muffins

Recipe from Denean Vreeland

½ cup shortening
1 cup brown sugar
1 egg
2 cups flour
1 tsp soda
¼ tsp salt
1 tsp vanilla
1 cup milk
¼ nuts (optional)

Cream shortening and sugar.  Add egg and beat until light and fluffy. Combine dry ingredients and stir into creamed mixture alternately with milk. Stir in nuts, if desired. Bake at 375 F for 20 minutes.
